The Killing has set a new tone for police drama. Not since Twin Peaks has a series delved so much into the daily minutiae and dead ends of police work. And we’ve loved every minute of it.
It’s been a over year since Rosie Larsen’s murder (which dominated the first two seasons) and detectives Linden (Mireille Enos) and Holder (Joel Kinnaman) have moved on. Seattle is still grey and rainy, but Holder has traded his narc look for a suit, and his star is rising. Linden is retired from the force, enjoying life working on the ferry she often took while investigating the Larsen murder.
But when a case involving a runaway teen echoes an investigation that nearly ended Linden’s career, Holder seeks Linden’s help.
Season 3 introduces two heavyweights: Peter Sarsgaard plays a death-row inmate and Elias Koteas joins the cast as Linden’s former partner (and lover) Ed, who now heads up the homicide squad. (Linden’s relationships with men are always complicated.)
With a fresh new storyline, it’s not essential to have seen the first two seasons – but you will want to!
