Season 2 airs Sunday nights at 9pm on Citytv, at Rogers On Demand (Channel 100) and online at

Campy psycho-drama Revenge has proven to be a worthy successor to Desperate Housewives in the guilty-pleasure stakes, serving up more cattiness and delicious nastiness than is probably healthy for any of us.

And Golden Globe nominee Madeleine Stowe continues to rule the roost as TV’s most menacing Queen of Mean. Her hell-on-wheels high society Hamptons villainess Victoria Grayson could machine-gun most of us to the ground with a mere glance. Her intense stillness is her secret weapon. But, oh, that husky voice. We eagerly await its deployment.

The woman is so adept at remaining in control at all times that she even managed to survive a devastating plane crash that ended Season 1. As if she wouldn’t. She probably knows she’s going to get her comeuppance one day, which only makes her steely resolve get steelier by the minute. Heaven help any young whipper snapper who dares cross her path.

That person, of course, is Emily VanCamp’s Emily Thorne, who secretly infiltrates the Grayson-ruled Hampton society to avenge the wrongs committed against her father. As Emily likes to remind us at the start of each episode, “When I was a child, my father was framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Before he died, he left a road map for revenge that led me to the people who destroyed our lives.”

At the very top of Emily’s hit list, needless to say, is ice queen Victoria, who’d framed Emily’s father for murder in order to protect her social standing, but not before jumping his bones. The fact that she’s oblivious to Emily’s true identity makes for dangerously addictive viewing.
