The Season 1 finale is available on demand from June 21 until July 15, 2013, at Rogers On Demand (Channel 100) and online at RogersAnyplaceTV.com.
It’s been well over 20 years since Dr. Hannibal Lecter first divulged his appetite for human flesh – paired with “fava beans and a nice chianti,” no less – and it’s been great to have the brilliantly twisted psychiatrist back again (this time on TV).
Based on characters from Thomas Harris’s renowned novel Red Dragon, Hannibal follows troubled serial-killer expert and ex-FBI agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) as he investigates a series of grizzly murders attributed to “the Chesapeake Ripper.” Graham recruits Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) as an aide, completely unaware of his heinous tendencies.
Featuring as much gore as you’ll probably ever see on network television (the “mushroom farm” scene comes to mind) and a wonderfully tense plotline, things reach tipping point at the end of Season 1, as we find Lecter in the midst of setting up Graham for his downfall. It should be one heck of a season finale.
It’s no wonder the series has just been green-lit for a second season (co-starring Laurence Fishburne and featuring guest appearances from Scott Thompson, Gillian Anderson and Molly Shannon).
