As a host, reviewer and producer on G4 television’s tech and entertainment pillars EP Daily and Reviews on the Run, Miri Jedeikin can stand toe-to-toe with the geeks and the film buffs alike. But when it comes to speaking her mind, the pop culture expert doesn’t shy away from separating the good from the bad in her reviews. “There are plenty of genre films coming out, but just because it falls into a nerdy category doesn’t mean it’s automatically great,” says the Montreal native. We caught up with Jedeikin in her home base of Los Angeles, where she talked to us about the apps and gadgets that help her survive press junkets, comic conventions and L.A. freeways.

1. iPHONE

“My iPhone keeps me connected in every way. It’s my gateway to information; to friends, social networks, my audience. For music, I still keep an iPod in the car.”

2. iPAD MINI

“I use it when I do interviews and go to junkets. It’s really small and light-weight, and it’s great for watching movies and for reading.”

3. PS3

“I learned how to play video games on a hand-held Donkey Kong game that belonged to one of my siblings. The PS3 is the most versatile of all my consoles because I use it to review Blu-rays and to play games.”

4. LITTLEBIGPLANET

“This game changed the way I look at the medium. The whole family can play, but it also presents a challenge to players to interact with the game and create their own content. Some of that user-generated content was a game changer for me and the way I perceive and play video games.”

5. WAZE

“Living in Los Angeles, you basically live in your car. Waze is a user-generated map app, and people are constantly inputting different routes to get around, alerting traffic and road closures. It’s only failed me a couple of times.”

6. MOPHIE JUICE PACK

“Mophie is a battery-powered case for iPhone. At Comic-Con, if your phone dies, you’re in big trouble. You need to be prepared, and this thing has saved me more than once.”

7. TWITTER

“I barely remember a time before Twitter. It’s perfect for keeping up with everything that matters to me: politics, friends, entertainment. We consume such a dizzying array of information, which I think is great… but sometimes I think my brain is going to explode. In a good way.” – follow @mirithejedi

8. YETI USB MICROPHONE

“I record so much voice-over for my job. I use it in a pinch, and it captures really great sound. Just plug it into a laptop and get what you need. It’s awesome.”
