Quick Tips

by

Are you getting the most out of your email on your iPhone? Check out these four tips to learn how to create a custom signature, attach pictures to emails and more.

1. A picture is worth 1,000 words

You could take the time to send a long message explaining the point you’re trying to get across or you could just send a quick picture. Attachments can be any image: A picture you’ve snapped, a screenshot you’ve grabbed or an image you’ve saved from a web page.

Send an image attachment by email:

  1. Open the Mail app and compose a new message.
  2. Tap and hold on a blank space in the email body.
  3. In the context menu that appears, choose Insert Photo or Video. You may need to tap the right arrow in this menu in order to see the Insert option.
  4. Select an album then tap the image (or video) you’d like to attach then tap Choose.

Tip: You can also send an image or video by opening the Photos app, selecting an album and image then tapping on the Share icon in the lower left.

2. Multiple Inboxes

Keep your work and home emails separate but always accessible by adding multiple email accounts on your iPhone.

To add a second (third, fourth) email account

  1. On the home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Tap Add Account and select the account type.
  4. Enter a name. This is the name that email recipients will see in their inbox when you send a message.
  5. Enter your email address, password and, if you wish a nickname (Description) for the mailbox.

Tip: If you don’t already have a second account, grab a free Gmail, Yahoo! or Outlook address to keep your personal email separate from your work email.

3. Yours Sincerely

Don’t spend time typing email salutations, plugging your web site, sharing your social media details or phone number every time you send an email. Just create an email signature on your iPhone and all this text will be automatically inserted into each email you send.

  1. From the home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Slide down to Signature and tap to edit.
  4. Tap in the text box and delete the default text “Sent from my iPhone.”
  5. Enter the text you’d like to be appended to the bottom of each email you send.

Tip: By default, you’ll be creating one signature for all email inboxes. You can create a different signature for each inbox by choosing “Per Inbox.”

4. The Velvet Rope

A VIP list also a great way to call attention to the most important emails you receive. With VIP status, an email from your husband or wife, your kids, your boss or anyone you choose gets preferential treatment.

To add a contact to your VIP list:

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. In the main Mailboxes menu, tap VIP.
  3. Tap Add VIP… and select a contact to add to the list.
  4. Repeat for everyone you want to add.
  5. Tap VIP Alerts and choose how you want to be notified of new VIP emails by changing the various options in this menu.

Tip: You can also add a contact to your VIP list by opening a message from them, tapping their name or email address and tapping Add to VIP.
